I applaud your efforts to provide clean drinking water while also providing advice on growing succulents and cacti (I thought the two were categorized differently…at least my cactus dealer says so). But when I look at the cost of your products, some costing as much as 30% more than one can find online elsewhere, I have to wonder just how much of that 10% in sales isn’t just a raise in prices so that you still net 20% in profits based on OTHER SELLER’S RETAIL PRICES. If we knew what your wholesale prices were, the amount of money you make must be that much more. I would be happy to support you and your products and give my money to you if there were a page where you had full disclosure of ALL of your costs, ALL of your upcharges on products, the difference between the two and on what do you base your 10% donation? Only on the profits made on the sales, or on the entire bill of the items’ sale? That could mean a big difference in what you collect, what you pay out, what you charge customers, and what you donate. For now I think I will just buy the products from other vendors at much cheaper prices, and then take the money I save and decide to donate that where I think it does the most good in terms of providing clean drinking water. Check out the man who invented the SEGWAY (Dean Kamen) and his water purification system called the SLINGSHOT. I think I’d rather donate my money to his organization where I can be assured of its specific and effective use.

Thanks for your comment, Max. We are a privately owned family business that donates 10% of our profits to charity. We’re very happy with how much we donate annually, as most businesses only donate 1% or even 0.5% to charity just to say they do it. I don’t believe it’s fair to ask us to list our wholesale costs, as you wouldn’t expect to go into McDonald’s or Target and freely get that information.

All of our DIY terrarium kits and most of our accessories are unique to our design, and our materials sourced from various suppliers, so any price comparison with other websites wouldn’t yield an accurate result. We take pride all of our DIY terrarium kits and instructions because we show people how to do it “the right way” – whereas we cannot vouch for the quality of other seller’s information. We do see quite a lot of DIY terrarium kits online that we KNOW will die within a couple of weeks simply because they aren’t correctly made – usually there isn’t adequate drainage or they use the wrong kind of succulents for the container. We’ve built a good level of trust and reputation with our return customers in the past couple years, so we stand behind our products, information, and the quality of our farm fresh succulents.

With that said, you have the right to put your money wherever it pleases you. We offer to give some of the profits on to charity because WE want to help however we can.
