How Clean Water Saves Lives
Check out this super short video about the importance of clean water:
“Until nobody on earth dies from dirty water…”
charity: water was founded in 2006 by NYC event promoter Scott Harrison after working with a humanitarian aid program called Mercy ships in West Africa. Scott experienced and documented what life was like in West Africa for 8 months in 2004 while assisting medical staff. While there, he realized that many people were earning less per year than the average bar tab in New York City. Many of the African citizens that visited the hospital Scott volunteered at were sick from drinking contaminated water. Their conditions were fully treatable conditions and would require just a 20 minute procedures if they were treated at a hospital in North America. Scott Harrison was changed by his experiences in Africa and decided to start making charity a part of his life. When he moved back home to New York City he founded charity: water.
By expanding to work with new partners, governments, and technology, charity: water is delivering more affordable and sustainable results to communities that desperately need access to clean drinking water around the world. Although clean water is often taken for granted, access to clean drinking water in some communities around the world can increase the quality of life for millions of people and create a real social impact for the health of the world’s citizens. Help make a difference in someone’s life by increasing awareness for this charity or giving a small donation – every bit helps.
